This is the walk that changed my life and I am so pleased to be in a position to offer it as part of my long-haul programme for 2020. Trekking in Nepal is an experience of a lifetime and will create lasting memories. The landscape and the people combine to make this an extraordinary adventure and I am delighted to be returning.

The trek up to Annapurna Sanctuary is probably the most popular in Nepal and, when you get there, you will realise why. The walking begins in lush foothills with homes and small villages perched on the hillsides. As we progress, the landscape becomes more mountainous in nature with views of sheer, snow clad slopes and the distant peaks that loom above. The highlight, and the high point, of our trek is the view of the Annapurna Sanctuary, a glacial bowl surrounded by some of the highest peaks in the world. The sheer scale and grandeur are breath-taking.

However, out trip is not just about the trekking as Nepal has so much more to offer. We will spend time in Kathmandu exploring its fascinating history and culture and also take time out in Pokhara to enjoy its position on the shores of Lake Phewa Tal. Taking time to explore and acclimatise to a different country and culture will certainly add to our trekking experience.

Any trek at altitude falls into the challenging category due to the very nature of the air around us. In Nepal it is better to think in terms of hours rather than distance as the latter are relatively short (up to 9 miles / 15km) but the terrain involves a lot of ups and downs within the same day and we walk at a leisurely pace for acclimatisation purposes. That said, with a reasonable level of fitness, this trek is very achievable especially with some preparation in advance. Naturally, the fitter you are, the more enjoyable it will be. In terms of altitude, we will be walking to a height of 4130m so this will affect you in some way and it is important to listen to your body and descend if necessary. Nobody can predict who will be affected by altitude sickness so the key is acclimatise as we go along and the itinerary we have chosen gives you the chance to do this.
