Edale Navigation Course, Peak District
Based in the idyllic Peak District village of Edale, this course covers map reading and compass skills with plenty of time to practice in the outdoors. The area is beautiful and we will spend much of our time exploring, on and off path, on the iconic Peak District plateau of Kinder Scout. We will head out to find Madwoman’s Stones, the Woolpacks, Kinder Downfall and the Druid’s Stone – all impressive focal points on the Peak District’s highest mountain.
The course is suitable for those who already have some experience with maps but would like to learn (or refresh their memory) about the use of a compass. November is also the perfect time to include an element of night navigation as we won’t have to stay out too late to encounter dark skies – it’s all great fun!
We will have an indoor session each morning and then walk straight from the door to put the theory into practice using the surrounding paths, tracks and moorland. There will be the opportunity, if you wish, to gain the National Navigation Award Scheme Silver Level certificate. If you would like to learn new skills in a relaxed, informal environment then this is for you!
By trainEdale is on the Hope Valley train line which runs between Sheffield and Manchester. Trains generally run once an hour. The accommodation is a 5 minute walk from the station.
