Set in the heart of the Lake District, between the lovely villages of Ambleside and Grasmere, Rydal has superb access to some classic Lake District scenery. There are wonderful walks in all directions with the beautiful lakes of Grasmere and  Rydal Water on our doorstep. Our itinerary will be flexible according to the conditions at the time but we aim to take in the best and most scenic trails and will no doubt visit Gramsere, Ambleside and Rydal Water.

We will be staying at Rydal Hall, set in its own tranquil grounds with a gorgeous garden. Rydal is also home to Wordsworth’s family home Rydal Mount which is still owned by the Wordsworth family.

Walks of up to 6 miles taken at a leisurely pace with plenty of stops for photos, refreshment breaks, taking in the scenery. The pace will be leisurely with no need to rush. Walks may involve some ascent / descent but these will be taken at a comfortable pace and will be on good paths although there may be uneven ground.

Set in over thirty acres of garden, woodland and natural beauty in the Lake District UNESCO World Heritage Site, Rydal Hall is the ideal venue for retreats, events, activity weekends or just a family holiday. With wonderful views over the Rothay valley and with the Fairfield Horseshoe and Nab Scar as a backdrop, the Hall and its grounds are the perfect place to enjoy this beautiful part of the world.

Barbara Hamilton has many years' experience as a walking guide and is both highly respected and a lovely woman too. She has guided many holidays and is valued by all for her friendly, relaxed approach.

By car: Rydal is on the main road bewteen Ambleside and Grasmere and there is on site parking for guests. By train: The nearest rail station is at Windermere. Catch the No 555 or the 599 bus from the station to Rydal
