The perfect way to spend your Christmas holiday – fresh air, great walking, gorgeous scenery right on the doorstep, lovely company, relaxed environment and fabulous food too!

Would you like to escape the usual Christmas routine and try something different this year? We are really looking forward to spending this Christmas in the beautiful Peak District National Park. Hathersage is an ideal location with many varied walks straight from the front door. We will certainly head up on to Stanage Edge, famed for its gritstone tors and Keira Knightly (Pride and Prejudice photo shoot). It is a dramatic edge running for miles above Hathersage and nearby Bamford.  We will also walk to Higger Tor and Carl Wark, the latter an Iron Age hillfort with a fascinating history. On other days we may take in Offerton Moor with its distant views over the Hope Valley and beyond and maybe get as far as Eyam, the famous plague village.

The holiday will be based at Hathersage Youth Hostel and we will have exclusive use. There is a cosy lounge, large dining room and plenty of space to relax. It is right in the heart of Hathersage with its outdoor shops, cafes and pubs.

The holiday is full board with vegetarian meals being prepared for us by Liz who is a fantastic cook and makes delicious cakes too!! Breakfast and lunch will be on a help your self basis with a good range of options provided.

The walks are between around 8 and 10 miles each day with some ups and downs involved. We will be on good footpaths and also moorland sections which will be off path. It isn’t very strenuous but a reasonable level of fitness is required for it to be enjoyable. Learn more about our Walk Grades.
We will have exclusive use of Hathersage Youth Hostel. Accommodation is in dorms with up to 6 beds although we will ensure that we have no more than 4 people per room. The hostel provides bed linen but you will need to bring a towel and toiletries. Being a hostel, there is very limited single occupancy so please do book well in advance if you would like a single room. You are welcome to bring your own wine, etc to have with dinner.
This holiday is guided by Clare Kelly
