There’s no better place for a Her Out on a Hill walking holiday than the lesbian capital of the north, Hebden Bridge!   Super lesbian friendly, home to artists and small independent shops, and surrounded by the beautiful and wild Pennine hills and moorland.

The Hebden Bridge hills make for terrific walking. There are endless drystone walls, ancient packhorse paths, wooded valleys and wild moorlands.  There is also much interesting history, the area having been at the centre of the early textile industry – long since vanished but the landscape still resonates with this early trade.   Each day starts with a walk upwards out of the valley, the footpaths can be a little rough underfoot, the ground can be muddy, and there will be various stone stiles and steps to tackle.   But the views are terrific and certainly reward the effort.

We will have exclusive use of the recently refurbished and comfortable IOU hostel where single occupancy dormitories are available.

We will have our own cook on site and breakfast, packed lunch and 3 evening meals are included. Please note that the hostel is a vegetarian space so all food consumed on site will comply. On one evening, we will head out into Hebden Bridge to eat together to experience one of the local eateries (not included).

Itinerary  (subject to change) –   each walk will be between 8-10 miles, with 300-400 metres ascent/descent

Day 1  Arrival day – there will be a short stroll through local woodland and then a walk down to explore the centre of Hebden Bridge.

Day 2  We will walk up to the historic village of Heptonstall and then out over fields heading west on the Calderdale Way towards Todmorden.   There will be fine views over the local moorland, a walk to blow away the cobwebs.  We can catch a local bus back to Hebden Bridge.

Day 3  This will be a walk through woods and then ‘over the tops’ to nearby Haworth, home of the Brontes.   Once there, you can either enjoy a relaxing cuppa and a stroll through the village, or visit the Bronte Parsonage museum.   A local bus will take us back to Hebden Bridge over a dramatic moorland road.

Day 4   A walk rising uphill to the imposing landmark of Stoodley Pike which stands at 400 metres and dominates the local landscape.  Then looping back to Hebden Bridge for refreshments.

Day 5  Departure day.   There will be a shorter optional walk for those who do not need to head off home immediately. We will finish by 2pm at the latest.
