From the centre of the renowned market town of Hebden Bridge, we briefly follow the pretty canal before climbing the south side of the valley using an old cobbled lane. Taking a little used route, we will reach lonely Bell House Moor, once the hideout for the infamous ‘coiners’, a band of 18th century outlaws who forged gold coins and who came to a gruesome end! We then circle round above Withens Clough reservoir and climb to reach Stoodley Pike, local landmark and high point. Great views over the valleys and moorland hills of the South Pennines are guaranteed (weather dependent)! We then descend through fields and woods to reach the centre of lively Hebden Bridge.

Grade: Moderate. 8 miles 300m ascent Walkers need to be prepared for some steady uphill walking at the start and some rough and wet ground.

Guide: Jo Bird, local guide with many years of experience in this area and beyond
