Hebden Bridge: Walk the Wild Side Midgley Moor & Churn Milk Joan Grade: Moderate
We will leave the centre of the market town of Hebden Bridge, walking uphill out of the valley through woods and fields. On our way we will pass through the ancient settlement of Old Town, seeing its history from yeoman hall to cotton mills. Reaching the moorland edge with wonderful far-reaching views, we will follow the Calderdale Way which circles round Midgley Moor and visit Churn Milk Joan, an impressive 7 foot standing stone, paying our respects in the time-honoured way by leaving a small coin! We will return by walking back down lanes and fields to lively Hebden Bridge where refreshments can be bought.
Grade: Moderate. 9 miles 300m ascent Walkers need to be prepared for some steady uphill walking at the start and some rough and wet ground.
