The Dolomites are mountains on a grand scale with dramatic limestone peaks soaring skywards at every turn. Our walks amongst these towering monoliths take in the abundant pastures which interlink these peaks at lower levels. The area is truly stunning and the holiday memorable for the views, flora and fauna and Italian hospitality.

We will explore the abundance of Alpine flowers, hope to hear the calls of the marmot (and hopefully see them pop up too) and generally enjoy all that nature has to offer in this wonderful region of Italy. There are meadows, forests, turqouise lakes and cols all offering a chacne to see flowers, birds and wild animals.

We stay at the lovely Rifugio Negritellla, set on a high plateau with extensive views across the mountains and valley below. Primarily a winter destination, there is an air of tranquility and peace in the summer months – the perfect spot to escape the everyday.

There is one ‘free’ day on the holiday when you can visit the ‘Iceman’ in Bolzano, go shopping in the local village or relax at the refuge.

low moderate gradeThe walks are graded as ‘Low Moderate ’ but with an Alpine twist. This means that two walks include descents and/or ascents of 520m and 485m respectively, which is a little more than might be expected. However, the pace will be slow with lots of pauses to take in any special flower, bird or animal we may come across, so perfect for our natural history walks.
Madeline Holloway is a natural history expert and freelance ecologist with a hugely impressive knowledge of birds and nature. She has been a walking guide for over 10 years and her enthusiasm for her subject is infectious. Be prepared to end up on your hands and knees magnifying glass in hand!
We stay at the lovely Rifugio Negritella, set high in the mountains. The refuge has been in the same family for generations and offers a welcoming space to return to each evening. All rooms are en-suite with great views.
There will be a single transfer by private minibus meeting certain flights arriving at Venice Marco Polo. We will aim to select flights from at least London and Manchester which arrive as close together as possible. The journey time to Vigo di Fassa is approximately 2.5 plus a refreshment stop en route.
