Jersey sits in the Bay of St Malo – just 14 miles (22 km) from the French coast and 85 miles (137 km) south of the English coast. For an island that is only 5 miles (8 km) long and 9 miles (14.5 km) wide, there is a huge variety of walking to enjoy. There are dramatic headlands, rugged coastlines and pretty green lanes to discover. Jersey is also a place with a fascinating and unique history. Our walks will take in Neolithic dolmens, secluded bays, stunning headlands, coastal fortifications and offer the essence of Jersey.
We will encounter many and varied fortifications: Grosnez Castle, a ruin from the 14th century; the south east coast has Martello towers from Napoleonic times; numerous German occupation bunkers will be seen on Noirmont headland; Corbiere is home to the iconic Corbiere lighthouse. Secluded bays/quaint harbours will include Bouley Bay and Rozel. On many of the walks, there is the possibility of seeing red squirrels and marsh harriers and Sorel Point is an area where red-billed choughs have been re-introduced – they will be heard and possibly seen.
In the evening, we will explore the local eateries (not included). Jersey is well known for its delicious food, especially fish and seafood.
