Peak District: Magpie Mine and Monsal Head Moderate
A varied guided walk through some iconic Peak District locations. The walk starts at the pretty White Peak village of Ashford in the Water and heads directly above the village towards the remnants of Magpie Mine. The site was a centre of lead mining and is evocative of a different age.
From here, we head along Deep Dale and Monsal Dale before reaching the famous viaduct at Monsal Head. We then return to Ashford via the quaint village of Little Longstone.
Grade: Moderate. The walk is 9 miles long with 550m of ascent. A reasonable level of fitness is required. The terrain is a mixture of paths, steep in places, and fields with some walking on minor roads.
