Quantock Hills: Nether Stowey, Great Wood and the Dead Woman’s Ditch Grade: Moderate
A second guided walk from the beautiful village of Nether Stowey, known as the gateway to the Quantock Hills AONB. Coleridge lived here as a young poet and it is where he wrote some of his best known work. From Nether Stowey, we head up through Great Wood and along the Quantock ridge with its avenue of giant beech trees and great views. As we drop back down to Nether Stowey we take in Dead Woman’s Ditch at Over Stowey, an earthwork that has been scheduled as an ancient monument.
Grade: Moderate. The walk is 8 miles with some gradients involved. A reasonable level of fitness is required to enjoy the walk.
