South Downs, Sussex
£495.00
This South Downs guided walking holiday has much to offer in terms of views and contrasting landscapes. The chalk cliffs of the area are nothing short of iconic and, inland, the countryside of rolling hills has a classic English feel. Our guided walks will take in the seascapes of the Sussex coast with its miles of stunning white cliffs including Beachy Head. We will also take in some of the pretty villages including beautiful Alfriston with its high street crammed with historic facades and Jevington, the home of banoffee pie.
We will be based in Eastbourne for the walking holiday and your guide will arrange for you to eat out together each evening. Eastbourne is located on a lovely stretch of coast and has a relaxed feel – perfect at the end of a good day’s walk.
Itinerary (subject to change)
Day 1: Arrive at our accommodation in the afternoon. Holiday briefing followed by dinner in Eastbourne.
Day 2: Starting in the beautiful village of Alfriston, we walk along the River Cuckmere before heading up towards the ‘White Horse’ chalk figure up on the escarpment. With lovely views across the Cuckmere valley to the Downs we head across country on gentle rolling paths passing the Rathfinny Vineyard and Camp Hill. We have fine views across to the Channel and, on reaching the South Downs Wa,y we head east again back towards Alfriston and a cup of tea!
Day 3: We head into town to catch the bus to the Seven Sisters Country Park from where we start our walk to Eastbourne. Our path takes us up into Friston Forest through beautiful woodland before emerging onto the top of the Downs, overlooking the village of Jevington. Heading down into the village, we join the South Downs Way to follow the path towards Beachy Head with lovely open walking before heading down into Eastbourne and back along the seafront to our accommodation.
Day 4: We head up to Beachy Head today to start our circular walk along the valley through lovely farmland heading for Birling Gap. Our path takes us back along the cliff path with fabulous views along the coastline and across the Channel. On a clear day this is an unbeatable place! Returning via the lighthouse at Belle Tout we finish our walk on the headland above Eastbourne. We collect our luggage from the accommodation in the early afternoon before heading home.
Feedback from a previous trip: </strong”>Our guide Barbara was great fun… as well as being extremely knowledgeable, and confident in her routes, showing us a range of beautiful countryside and coastline, with lots of time to take in the views and stops as required for coffees, loo breaks and lunches, which were plentiful and tasty. I would definitely recommend this trip.” Ruth
