Wharfedale is one of the most beautiful and accessible valleys in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, offering spectacular scenery, charming villages and unforgettable walking opportunities. Carved by the sparkling River Wharfe, the valley stretches from the wild uplands of Langstrothdale to the historic surroundings of Bolton Abbey, showcasing rolling green hills, dramatic limestone cliffs, flower-filled meadows and traditional dry stone walls. Rich in history and natural beauty, Wharfedale combines peaceful landscapes with a warm Yorkshire welcome, making it the perfect destination for a walking holiday.

Our accommodation is located in the small hamlet of Kilnsey, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, between the popular villages of Grassington and Kettlewell. It provides an excellent base for walking holidays, with direct access to footpaths, limestone scenery, waterfalls and the River Wharfe. We have our very own cook on site to provide breakfast and a hearty 2 course dinner. Lunch is on a help yourself basis.

The itinerary is flexible and will be finalised nearer the time but possible highlights include:

Conistone Dib & Conistone Pie Circular (7 miles / 11 km) – One of the best walks in Upper Wharfedale. Climb through the dramatic limestone gorge of Conistone Dib, cross limestone pavements, enjoy superb views from Conistone Pie, then return via the Dales Way beside the River Wharfe.

Kilnsey Crag & Mastiles Lane (7 miles / 11 km) – A rewarding circular taking in the famous limestone cliffs of Kilnsey Crag, open moorland, and the ancient green lane of Mastiles Lane. Expect panoramic views over Wharfedale and Malhamdale.

Grassington, Grass Wood & Linton Falls (8 miles / 13km) – Starting a short drive from Kilnsey, this route follows the River Wharfe to Linton Falls, passes through the beautiful ancient woodland of Grass Wood, and returns via the lively market town of Grassington.

Kettlewell to Starbotton Riverside Circuit (6 miles / 9.5 km) – Walk high above the valley on one side before returning along the River Wharfe. The route offers wonderful views and two picturesque villages with traditional pubs.

Wharfedale & Littondale (8½ miles / 13.5 km) – A classic Dales walk linking two beautiful valleys with wide-open moorland and excellent viewpoints. It includes moderate climbs but no technical sections.

Sample Description Walks are normally between 7 and 10 miles on a mixture of paths, tracks and rough ground. The pace will be moderate with refreshment breaks and opportunities to admire the surroundings. The Yorkshire Dales are made up of hilly limestone scenery so you need to be reasonably fit to enjoy the ascents and descents.

We stay in a lovely converted stone barn, set in a quiet location in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales between Kettlewell and Grassington. The barn is spacious with 9 bedrooms and has a games room with mini snooker table.

By public transport: The nearest train station is Skipton which is around a 25 minute taxi ride from the accommodation. We can arrange a shared taxi by request for trains arriving around 4pm (not included). By car: The accommodation is between Grassington and Kettlewell and has off road parking available on site.
