Enjoy the best of the Northumbrian coast with Barbara, taking in 5 of Counry Living’s top 10 prettiest villages in Northumberland. The holiday is based around a linear walk from Bamburgh heading south to Alnmouth. We cover 22 miles over 3 days with a  day to explore the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.

Itinerary (subject to change)

Day 1 Arrival and orientation walk with Barbara. Holiday briefing followed by dinner.

Day 2 Bamburgh to Beadnell 7 miles / 80m ascent The holiday begins with time to explore what has been named Britain’s top seaside destination, Bamburgh. With its imposing caslte and the Grace Darling museum and memorial, it has much ot offer for a tiny village. From here, we take to the coast exploring the dunes and expanse of sandy beach which takes us to Seahouses. A typical seaside village, we take time for refreshments here – perhaps an ice cream? From Seahouses, the coastal path takes us back to Beadnell and our accommodation.

Day 3 Beadnell to Craster 7.5 miles / 70m ascent Heading out from Beadnell, with its rugged cliffs, we wend our way to Low Newton by the Sea with its lovely bay spread out before us. From here, we take in Embleton Bay and soon see the dramatic ruins of Dunstanburgh Caslte ahead. It is a memorable site and the subject of many a photograph. Next up is Craster, known for its kippers and scenic little harbour.

Day 4 Craster to Alnmouth 7 miles / 150m ascent From Craster we head to Cullernose Point, Rumbling Kern and picturesque Howick Dene. There are lovely beaches, interesting geology and basalt outcrops along the way. From the tiny Boulmer, we continue to the pretty village of Alnmouth where our coastal walk ends.

Day 5 A more leisurely day to visit the wonderous tidal island of Lindisfarne with its priory, imposing castle and  colourful Gertrude Jekyll garden.

Day 6 Alnwick. A half day visit to the historic town of Alnwick before heading home.

We stay at a small, family run B&B in Beadnell where you will be sure of a warm welcome.

low moderate grade The walks are 7 to 8 miles per day with much less ascent than on a regular Low Moderate holiday. The ascent is more in line with the leisurely walks but the mileage is a little longer and so falls into the Low Moderate category, although at the lower end of this. Also bear in mind that there are sightseeing opportunities on some of the days which will add to the mileage. The paths are generally good although rocky and uneven in places.
We stay at a small family run motel style B&B with car parking directly outside your room. There is a cafe adjoining the rooms where breakfast is provided. The rooms are of a good standard and in an ideal location for an outdoor holiday. The staff are friendly and very welcoming.
Barbara Hamilton has many years' experience as a walking guide and is highly respected. She has guided many holidays in East Sussex and the South over the years. However, she also has strong connections to the North East and loves Northumbria.
By train: The nearest station to Beadnell is Chathill. However, there is only 1 train per day so the next nearest is Alnmouth which is around 20 minutes away by taxi. A taxi costs around £35+ and we can organise a shared taxi by request at around 4pm. By car: Follow the A1(M) and A1 towards Beadnell. There is off road parking directly outside the rooms.
