Trekking in Nepal is an experience of a lifetime and will create lasting memories. The landscape and the people combine to make this an extraordinary adventure and I am delighted to be returning.
Trekking in the Annapurna foothills makes Nepal accessible to many walkers as the trail is well-trodden, below the height where altitude may be an issue and the pace is not rushed with plenty of stops and relatively short days. The walking is through the lush foothills of the Annapurna range with homes and small villages perched on the hillsides. There are terraces fields, people cultivating the land, rhododendrons in flower and well-made paths connecting the villages. As we progress, the views are more mountainous in nature as we see sheer, snow clad slopes and the distant peaks that loom above. The highlight, and the high point, of our trek is the early morning ascent of Poon Hill with its magnificent 360-degree view of majestic Himalayan peaks.
However, our trip is not just about the trekking as Nepal has so much more to offer. We will spend time in Kathmandu exploring its fascinating history and culture and also take time out in Pokhara to enjoy its position on the shores of Lake Phewa Tal. Taking time to explore and acclimatise to a different country and culture will certainly add to our trekking experience.

Tips for local guides and porters
This trek is designed for walkers who have a reasonable level of fitness and stamina and is one of the more moderate treks in the Himalayas. In Nepal it is better to think in terms of hours rather than distance as the latter are relatively short but the terrain involves a lot of ups and downs within the same day and we walk at a relaxed pace for acclimatisation purposes. Naturally, the fitter you are, the more enjoyable it will be and some preparation in advance is recommended to ensure you get the most out of the experience. In terms of altitude, we will be walking mainly below 3000m and only going beyond this on the Poon Hill morning where it is easy to descend should you feel the need to do so. The altitude may still affect you in some way and it is important to listen to your body and descend if necessary. Nobody can predict who will be affected by altitude sickness so the key is to acclimatise as we go along and the itinerary we have chosen gives you the chance to do this.
