Costa Rica is a country rich in biodiversity with over a quarter of this small Central American country being protected National Park, reserve and designated wildlife area. These areas include islands and beaches, rain forests and dry forests, active volcanoes, hot springs, caves, river canyons and waterfalls. With a Pacific and Caribbean coast plus a rugged interior it is a fascinating place to explore the natural world.
Our trip will take us to the lush and unique environment of the cloud forests around Monteverde. We will then head to Jaco on the Pacific coast to observe the abundance of flora and fauna before crossing over to water-bound Tortuguero on the Caribbean side of the country to explore on foot and by boat.
There is a wide diversity of wildlife and birdlife in Costa Rica and some of the most common sightings are of sloths, howler and capuchin monkeys, treefrogs, caimans, toucans, hummingbirds and so much more….

This is a holiday based around the wonderful natural world of Costa Rica. The walking is at a suitably slow pace to observe the colourful birds and wildlife of the country and there are no long walking days involved. However, the holiday does involve a lot of travelling and a full itinerary which can be tiring so a good level of stamina and fitness is needed.
We will stay at 4 separate accommodations as we tour the island including a small hotel in San Jose, lodges in Monteverde, a small hotel in Jaco with a swimming pool and a small B&B in Tortuguero with a riverside terrace.
We will provide a private transfer from San Jose Juan Santamaria airport (SJO) for certain flight times TBC. There are other flights available depending on budget and journey times. If you choose to arrive or depart at a different time, we can organise a taxi for you at cost price (around $40 per journey). If you would prefer to arrive the day before or stay on afterwards then we can organise an extra night at the hotel for you. Please note that return flights are overnight arriving the following day. You can purchase your flight independently via the airline. If you prefer to have a flight booked on your behalf that has ATOL protection and / or you would like to add on extra days at a different accommodation then we can provide contact details of our preferred agent.
