Dartington is set in a beautiful area of rural and coastal Devon much of which is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretching as far as the edges of Dartmoor National Park and featuring one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the UK.

If you value variety, then this is the perfect destination for your holiday.  There are rolling hills, coastal paths, riverside routes, moorland tracks and historic sites all to be enjoyed during your stay.

The leisurely walks will take in the alternative town of Totnes, visit Buckfastleigh with its imposing abbey and enjoy the pretty harbour at Brixham. There will be the opportunity to visit Agatha Christie’s holiday home, Greenway which was the setting for her novel Dead Man’s Folly. Have a read to get you in the mood for your trip.

The moderate walks will explore the rolling countryside around Dartington Hall and the River Dart, take in an undulating section of the South West Coast Path and there will be a trip to Hay Tor on Dartmoor to savour  this iconic landscape.

We stay at the gorgeous Dartington Hall, set around a group of Grade I listed late 14th century buildings  with a lovely courtyard. Based on 1,200 acres of beautiful parkland outside Totnes in South Devon, the Dartington Estate is a historic visitor destination, events venue and thriving community of businesses, colleges and more. The perfect place to return to after a day of walking.

Leisurely and Moderate There are 2 grades of walk on offer each day. The leisurely walks are up to 6 miles with minimal ascent / descent. The moderate walks are between 9 and 10.5 miles and ascent ranges from 480m to 880m. The coast in particular has a series of quite demanding ascents and descents. However, the pace will allow for plenty of stops to take in the views. No need to rush.
Dartington Hall, set in its own extensive landscaped gardens, is a grand old building based around a Medieval courtyard. A hub for the arts and creativity, the hall is a vibrant place within a historic setting. https://www.dartington.org/
Your guides for this holiday are Clare Kelly, owner of Her on a Hill, and Barbara Hamilton, owner of Walking London. Both have many years of guiding experience and are very pleased to be working together again. They have both enjoyed leading walks in Dartington in the past and are looking forward to a return visit.
By Train The nearest station is Totnes on the Paddington to Penzance line. It is 1.5 miles from the hall. There is a taxi rank at the station or you can take a bus or walk to the hall. By Car There is free parking at the hall. Please see website for directions: https://www.dartington.org/visit/visitor-information/
