Covering a total of 823 square miles, Eryri / Snowdonia is Wales’ largest National Park and one of the first to be designated back in 1951. Home to over 26,000 people, Eryri’s landscape is steeped in culture, history, and heritage and attracts walkers in search of towering peaks, breath-taking valleys and tranquillity on its lesser-trodden paths.
Rachel knows the area well and will guide you expertly through these impressive Welsh mountains. The itinerary will be kept flexible in order to get the best out of the weather and to suit the group. Possible day walks include: Yr Wyddfa / Snowdon via the quieter Rhyd ddu path and south ridge; Moel Hebog and Beddgelert Forest; Aberglaslyn gorge, Moelwyn tops, Sygun copper mine; Cnicht and slate mines; Cambrian way, slate workings and Yr Aran; Moel Siabod. There are many routes to choose from to make the most of your time in Eryri.
We have exclusive use of a beautiful self catering house nestled in a valley at the bottom of Yr Wyddfa, in the heart of the National Park. It is an elegant stone-built house retaining many original features and is located in the village of Beddgelert. The holiday is fully catered by our own cook, Vicky who will ensure there is a hearty meal for you at the end of the day.
Walks of 7 to 12 miles on a mixture of paths and rough ground with considerable ascents/ descents on most days. The pace will be moderate but there will still be time to stop and enjoy the surroundings. A very good level of fitness will be required for the ascents and descents. You must feel comfortable walking in a high mountain environment. On a few days there are possibly short sections of basic scrambling which your guide will help you with as needed. There are no narrow ridges to negotiate only broad mountain ridges with easy rocky steps to ascend and descend. Terrain underfoot can be rocky and loose so good footwear with ankle support is essential.
Your guide for this holiday is Rachel Bolton, a fabulous leader who is compassionate and flexible.
