Edale Kinder Scout West: Kinder Downfall Grade: Moderate to Challenging
£35.00
Kinder Scout, the highest point in the Peak District, is a vast expanse of peat moorland bordered by evocative gritstone edges, weathered by the elements. On this walk we will venture away from the edges to explore the interior of Kinder, a journey that involves rough ground and a sense of adventure.
From Edale, we will head up to the plateau which looms above via one of the many rugged clough paths. On reaching the top, we will head towards the western edges taking in the Woolpacks, an eerie collection of weathered stones and then head to the iconic waterfall, Kinder Downfall. After appreciating the views, we will head to the huge gritstone tors known as Kinder Gates. From here we will plot a route back across the peat moorland which will involve a great deal of rough ground , crossing peat groughs and bog until we reach the southern edge where we will select a suitable path for our descent into Edale.
Grade: Moderate to challenging. 10 miles, 800m ascent, some sections off path across moorland and peat. A reasonable level of fitness is reuqired for this walk.
