Based at the National Forest Youth Hostel, about 20 miles south of Derby, this holiday will explore the nearby paths and tracks of the National Forest, a mixture of old and newly planted trees. On one day we will head over to walk in the National Nature Reserve near Calke Abbey.

There are two walks each day, one leisurely walk up to around 6 miles and a longer walk of around 10 – 12 miles with not too many ascents. These walks are longer than the usual low moderate grade but with fewer hills than the usual moderate walks.

We stay at the National Forest Youth Hostel where we have exclusive use with shared and single use ensuite rooms available. The hostel is modern, bright, spacious and eco-friendly with 23 ensuite rooms – and a pool table.

We have our own cook on site and the holiday is full board. There is a 2 course evening meal and breakfast and packed lunch are provided on a help yourself basis.

£640 single esnuite room / £120 per person discount for a shared room. There are 2 walks on offer each day. A leisurely walk up to around 6 miles and a longer walk of around 10 - 12 miles. This is longer than the usual low moderate grade but with less ascent and descent than the usual moderate grade. A reasonable level of fitness is required for all walks.
The guides for this holiday are Clare Kelly and Debbie Walker, both qualified Mountain Leaders with many years of experience. Clare owns Her on a Hill and you can read more about her here Debbie is a qualified mountain leader who loves meeting new people and being in the outdoors, whatever the weather. She has guided trips to Kilimanjaro, Inca Trail, Great Wall of China as well as many UK mountains and long distance paths.
National Forest Youth Hostel, Bath Lane, Moira, Swadlincote DE12 6BD YHA National Forest is a lovely, eco-friendly hostel which offers quality en-suite accommodation. There are 23 ensuite rooms available. The communal area is open plan consisting of a dining room, lounge with a pool table in between.
By train: The nearest rail station is Burton-upon-Trent, 7.5 miles away. We can arrange a shared taxi. By car: The hostel is near Conkers activity centre which is well signposted. The hostel has plenty of free parking available.
