Stanage Edge, Robin Hood’s Cave and Higger Tor
£35.00
Stanage Edge, one of the best known of the Peak District’s iconic gritstone edge, is the focus for this 8.5 mile day walk. We will head up to the edge from the lovely village of Hathersage through a mixture of green fields and woodland. On reaching the edge, we head eastwards taking in the spectacular views from this high viewpoint. We will see abandoned millstones and pop into Robin Hood’s cave, hidden away beneath the gritstone tors above.
At the eastern end of Stanage we descend to Upper Burbage bridge before heading over Higger Tor, a mass of weathered gritstone boulders and another perfect vantage point affording long reaching views. From here, we head back towards Hathersage across moorland and on a quiet woodland track.
Hathersage has a great selection of outdoor shops and cafes / pubs and there will be time to explore these at the end of the walk. Please note: most shops will be closed on Christmas Day.
Grade: Low Moderate. 8.5 miles 450m ascent. One long gradual ascent to the edge, getting steeper at the top. Good paths and tracks througout.
